Building Teams

School climate change for safety involves many systems in the school that can impact the success of a change. The change process is too complex for one person. It takes a dedicated effort from interested faculty, staff, and students for success. The heart of the process is a leadership team. Experienced principals say that strong school teams are essential for planning and implementing change.

Studies comparing successful implementation have found that leadership teams assess needs, develop interventions, guide implementation, and monitor progress. The Safety Leadership Team (SLT) becomes a standing committee/team serving as the foundation for the school’s Comprehensive School Safety Plan. 

This section has two parts:

Part 1 – For Leaders

The leader can walk through the steps in selecting team members, outlining the mission, and selecting a team leader.

Part 2 – For Teams

This part includes a workbook for new teams to develop the process and procedures needed for an effective team.
